These three phrases describe the events of the weekend. Stan is in the process of removing most of the vegetation in our backyard in preparation for planting a “wall” of bamboo (hence the Paul Bunyan part). He has also been working hard at painting the exterior of the house…and even got me to paint two windows today! In the midst of all of this “productivity,” we still managed an at-home date night last night (i.e., we ate and watched a movie after putting the kids to sleep). The menu included filet mignon with cranberry port reduction and gorgonzola, broiled broccoli and garlic, and hummingbird cake. We watched The Visitor, which we highly recommend.

We made a trip to visit baby Rebecca this past week. It was so great to see her, Elizabeth, and Ben. Ginna had not been to Wing and Granddaddy’s house since she was 9 months old, so it was great fun for her to explore there! She and Wing enjoyed looking at Go’s music boxes together, and she and Granddaddy went fishing lots. Granddaddy got her a Dora fishing pole.

Mom and Dad had saved lots of toys from when we were kids…amazing to me, considering the number of moves we had! This was my Wonder Horse.

We also got to see Jennifer’s baby, Xander. He was so cute and funny! Here he is posing with Rebecca.

PS. Jamey is walking….photos to come!

We’ve had lots of celebration for the past week. On New Year’s Day, we culminated our celebrations with Stan’s birthday. He requested apple pie for his birthday. His birthday meal consisted of wilted spinach salad, scallops au gratin served over mashed potatoes, and French pistou bread with dipping oil.
Stan told me recently that he was the only architect without an iphone. I consider that hyperbole, but I do understand architects have a fond affinity for gadgets, particularly electronic ones. So, for his birthday he received a communication device appropriate for his profession.
Ginna gave him a blue case to keep it safe!

Ginna says, “Look, Dad! It’s a blue phone!”

Here are the two James Stanleys on their (almost) the same birthday.

Can it be true that our baby is 1? This has been such an incredible year. He has been such a dear baby. I can’t wait to see how his personality develops. Here are some photos from today.

I used Ginna’s Winnie the Pooh cake mold to make Jamey’s cake.

Ginna gave Jamey a dog pillow.

Jamey has been very interested in Stan’s work on the house lately…so we decided to get him his own (safe) hammer.

Jamey got Cat trucks from Stan’s parents.

We got him this garage. He loves watching the cars zoom down and come out the bottom.

Has it really been a year?
